In order to encourage citizens to become more environmentally friendly, the government will pay for a generous portion of solar home water heaters. This comes in the form of the following:
- $500 cash rebate from the state of Florida
- 30% tax credit from the Federal government
- Removal of the cost of the system from the taxable value of your home's
propety taxes for 10 years

What does this all mean to you, the consumer? It means the government is
willing to pay close to half of the cost of a solar water heating system that will
reduce your electric bill by 30%. And in doing so you will be helping the
environment greatly. It is simply a win-win situation.
The government is also willing to pay a significant amount of a solar
photovoltaic system (solar electricity) as well. The state of Florida will pay $4
per watt on the total wattage of the system up to $20,000. In addition to what
the state will contribute, many electric companies offer up to $1.50 per watt
which would be an extra $7500 off a typical 5kW system. Now there is one
more way to save money. Most of those electric companies will buy the
excess power your personal solar photovoltaic system produces. So its
possible for you to receive a check instead of a bill every month!
Ok to break that all down:
- $4/watt up to $20,000 from the state of Florida
- up to $1.50/watt from power companies
- sell back excess power to the power companies
- produce your own electricity to power your home
On a typical 5kW system, that is saving $20,000 towards a solar electric
system for your home, and possibly up to $27,500 or more. That means there
is absolutely no reason to hesitate...unless of course you don't like saving
money!
